Katie Durrant

Dr. Katherine (Katie) Marie Durrant, LMSW, DSW, is an author, editor, and doctoral-level social worker. She is currently working in Ithaca, New York, at a continuing care retirement community that mostly houses retired Cornell University professors.

Katie has been editing technical, scientific manuscripts for over a decade for professors from business schools at top universities around the world. Her edited work has been published in the Journal of Applied Economics, Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, and others. She also works with writers to publish their memoirs and novels. Her specialties include unifying the voices of multiple contributors to create coherent and concise writing, improving grammar for non-native English speakers, formatting to target journal guidelines, and word-count reduction. Throughout the editing process, Katie provides supportive critical feedback (Yes, she has at times worked herself out of a gig!).

Katie began editing after publishing her first book, No Freedom Shrieker: The Civil War Letters of Charles F. Biddlecom. She still writes, but also enjoys helping researchers refine their writing skills and get their work published.

Katie earned her Masters of Social Work as well as her Doctorate of Social Work from the University of Southern California, with concentrations in military families and implementation science. Before the academe, Katie was a farmer and a professional marathon runner -- two activities that still draw some of her time and attention.

Sarah Danner

Sarah Katherine Danner is currently a teacher in Western New York. Passionate and curious about language from an early age, Sarah has lived in Japan, South Korea, and Italy, before finding a more permanent home in Gowanda, New York.

Sarah’s undergraduate degree in linguistics and Japanese, with a concentration in teaching English as a second language, led her to teach English abroad in South Korea for two years. After moving back to the United States, Sarah earned her Master’s degree in education and continued putting her passion for language to work in a hands-on setting working with young children on literacy development.

Because of her background in linguistics, Sarah’s expertise is in editing papers for non-native English speakers. She is passionate about helping writers explain complex ideas with nuance and precision.

As it turns out, runners seem to have a proclivity toward word work and are quite used to spending a fair bit of time inside their own heads. Like Katie, Sarah is a marathon runner and hopes to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Trials.
